Newcastle United are lining up a £10m bid for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin, according to the Metro.
The North East club are keen on securing a deal for the England U21 international, and believe that completing such a deal could help them in their attempts to lure ex-England manager Steve McClaren from Championship promotion hopefuls Derby County.
Austin, who was playing non-league football just six years ago is on the verge of a full international call up after impressing in QPR’s fight for survival, with seventeen goals in twenty-nine Premier league appearances.
Since moving to Loftus Road from Burnley in the summer of 2013, the 25 year old has racked up sixty-seven appearances in total, scoring thirty-seven goals and his seventeen in the …
Former Premier League player Delroy Facey has been jailed for two and a half years after being found guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery.
Facey, 35, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday alongside semi-professional player Moses Swaibu, 25, who was sent down for 16 months.
A Daily Telegraph investigation revealed in November 2013 that a ring of individuals, including Facey, were responsible for attempting to fix games in the lower leagues of English football.
It follows the conviction of three men in June 2014 in connection with the same matter.
A National Crime Agency (NCA) statement said of the betting ring: Their meetings, conversations and messages built up a picture of a concerted effort over seven days to engage and corrupt …
French newspaper that Montpellier are pondering a move for QPR striker Djibril Cisse.
The Frenchman, who spent last six months on loan at Al Gharafa, has one year left on his deal at Loftus Road, but everything suggests he will be leaving the Rangers this summer.
According to Le 10 Sport, Montpellier are prepared to offer him an escape route from Loftus Road, but club president confirms signing the veteran forward would be a major gamble.
“It would be a big gamble. It is the coach who decides, not me,” Montpellier chairman Louis Nicollin told Radio Monte Carlo.
Montepellier have been struggling up front ever since they sold star striker Olivier Giroud to Arsenal, and they could really use a proven goalscorer.
The problem is that Cisse hasn t…
Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has already been busy adding to his squad this summer
Last season was very much a transitional season at Aston Villa.
The Villans finished two places higher in the Premier League table than they did the previous season, when much-maligned former-Birmingham boss Alex McLeish was in charge.
Last season was a very different story under current boss Paul Lambert.
There was a feeling around the club that Villa were making progress and that Lambert was instilling his style of play into the team.
Young
Lambert has put his faith in youth and it started to pay with better performances toward the end of the season.
His young players now have more experience of the top flight and it will better prepare them for …
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted at further additions before the transfer window closes, despite concerns of Financial Fair play breaches.
The Gunners have reportedly come under attention from UEFA over heavily spending in the past year after the sport s governing body created a watchlist of clubs they will keep a closer eye on.
Like many in the coronavirus period, Arsenal have sustained significant losses in the past three years but that has not halted a major overhaul in the squad – ousting high earners like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang while splashing the cash to land additions such as Gabriel Jesus.
At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that Arsenal will be hit by UEFA sanctions and Arteta is confident that will remain the case.

Spain fired a six-goal warning on Tuesday as the countdown to the June 14 kick-off of the FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa continued.
Striker David Villa, reportedly on the wanted list of super spenders Real Madrid, performed a one-man sales pitch during the first half in Azerbaijan with a hat-trick that set up a 6-0 friendly triumph.
While pitting the country ranked first in the world against opponents who weigh in at number 140 might appear cruel, the sizzling Spaniards reeled off another victory without a hint of mercy.
Euro 2008 winners Spain inhabit what appears to be much the easier of the two Confederations Cup groups with hosts South Africa and the champions of Asia and Oceania, Iraq and New Zealand.
On the other side of the draw, World C…
Edinson Cavani has accepted his Football Association (FA) ban but insisted my heart is at peace over the social media post that saw him sanctioned.
The Manchester United striker was suspended for three games and hit with a £100,000 fine for posting a message in response to an Instagram story following the Red Devils 3-2 win over Southampton on November 29, a game in which Cavani scored twice.
Cavani used a Spanish phrase in the post, which was later deleted after he was told of its potential to cause offence, and it resulted in an FA charge for bringing the game into disrepute.
The Uruguay international posted on Twitter to apologise for any offence caused, but insists it was a misunderstanding as a result of a difference in culture.

Lautaro Martinez put the seal on Inter s 3-1 victory against Cremonese at San Siro after first-half goals from Joaquin Correa and Nicolo Barella gave the Nerazzurri full control.
The hosts were in front early on when Correa converted a rebound from a parried Edin Dzeko shot, before a superb strike from Barella made it 2-0 before half-time.
Simone Inzaghi’s hosts took their foot off the gas after the interval, but they added a third through substitute Martinez before David Okereke netted a late consolation.
The three points mean Inter bounce back from Friday’s 3-1 defeat to Lazio as they move up to second, just one point behind leaders Roma. Cremonese are still yet to pick up a point this season, kept off the bottom by Monza on goal difference.

Sky Sports understands that Jonathan Walters could be set to leave Burnley this summer.
The Republic of Ireland international moved to Turf Moor last summer but managed just three brief substitute appearances in the league – the last of which coming in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Boxing Day.
Prior to his move to the Lancashire club, he spent seven seasons with Stoke City, where he racked up over two hundred and seventy appearances, scoring sixty-two goals while he has also played for Ipswich Town, Chester City, Wrexham, Hull City and Bolton Wanderers and had loan spells with Crewe Alexandra, Barnsley and Scunthorpe United – having began his career with Blackburn Rovers.
He has been capped fifty-one times for his country, scoring fourteen goals …
