Jorginho ´surprised´ by Tuchel axe, says Chelsea players feel ´responsible´

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho says the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel came as a surprise , revealing the Blues players feel partly responsible for his exit.

The German coach was axed last week in the aftermath of a surprise defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, which followed on from Premier League losses against Southampton and Leeds United during an underwhelming start to the season.

Chelsea moved quickly to appoint Graham Potter as Tuchel s successor at Stamford Bridge, with their first game under his guidance coming on Wednesday against Salzburg.

With last week s Premier League action postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Tuesday s pre-match news conference represented the first opportunity for questions on the managerial change.

Robinho replaces Costa in Brazil squad

Milan striker Robinho has been named as Diego Costa s replacement for Brazil s upcoming friendlies with Honduras and Chile.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup hosts face Honduras in Miami on November 16, before taking on South American rivals Chile in Toronto on November 19.

Head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari had intended to select Atletico Madrid striker Costa following a fine start to the season that has seen him score 13 goals in all competitions.

However, Costa turned down the call of his homeland, signing a letter to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CFB) declaring his intention to use his Spanish citizenship to play for the world and European champions.

Costa s decision has seen Robinho drafted in by Scolari, with the 29-year-old in line to win his first cap since 201…

QPR announce losses of £9.8m

QPR s financial records show the club made a loss of £9.8million for the financial year ending May 2014.

Premier League strugglers QPR have announced losses of £9.8million for the financial year ending May 2014.

Following relegation from the top flight in 2012-13, the Loftus Road club bounced straight back via the play-offs last season, but are just one place above the drop zone, ahead of Burnley and Aston Villa on goal difference.

The club s records showed a loss of almost £10m, although expenditure has been significantly lessened and £60m worth of debt has been written off.

Expenditure was reduced by £22m, mainly driven by lower player costs and this trend will continue in future years as the club will continue to bring losses down, a statement r…

Chelsea and PSG eye Man United goalkeeper

This has been a very interesting year for Dean Henderson. The 22-year-old goalkeeper got promoted with Sheffield United to the Premier League and then returned for the new season with the Blades, this time in the top flight. That has worked out perfectly for him, as he had some incredible performances so far, coming off the back of his U21 Euro 2019 campaign with England.

But it looks like Henderson, who is Manchester United player on loan at Sheffield United, might actually change the club this coming summer. According to the ESPN, Henderson is being targeted by Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain for a potential transfer this summer.

Henderson has emerged as one of the Premier League s top goalkeepers this season and he might even be important for England at EURO 2020 thi…

Messi named LaLiga´s Player of the Month for February

Lionel Messi s inspirational form through February has seen the Barcelona captain collect his first Player of the Month award of the season.

February was Messi s most fruitful month of the 2020-21 campaign to date as he scored seven goals, two more than he managed in January.

No player scored more than him, while Real Sociedad s Alexander Isak was the only other individual to net more than four times in the month.

Messi s goalscoring habits helped Barca win four of their five games in the qualifying period, all of which saw him score at least once.

As such, Barca have improved their chances of potentially sparking a genuine title scrap in the final months of the season, with the Blaugrana only five points adrift of the leaders Atletico Madrid.

Benfica coach keen on Coentrao return

Benfica boss Jorge Jesus has revealed his desire to bring Portugal international Fabio Coentrao back to the Estadio da Luz.

The 25-year-old left the Primeira Liga club to join Real Madrid in July 2011, but made just 16 Liga starts last term as he failed to regularly oust Marcelo at left-back.

And Jesus says he is open to the idea of the defender returning to Benfica again next season, should he decide to leave the Bernabeu in order to secure first-team football.

I would really like to have Coentrao, he told Marca. Fabio is a player that the fans love and we all got him to grow when few believed in him.

Coentrao, who reportedly cost Real Madrid €30 million, won the 2010-11 Portuguese title and two Taca da Liga s during his four years at Benfica.

Payet makes Marseille return in extra-time win

There were two reasons for Marseille fans to celebrate on Tuesday as Dimitri Payet made his first appearance since returning to the club in a 2-1 victory over Lyon in the Coupe de France.

Payet engineered a £25million move back to the Stade Velodrome having only left to join West Ham in 2015, his departure from London Stadium coming in acrimonious circumstances.

The deal was completed on Sunday and the 2016 Ballon d Or nominee was named among Rudi Garcia s substitutes for the visit of Lyon.

Supporters chanted Payet s name before kick-off, and within 24 minutes they had another reason to cheer when Rod Fanni headed in Maxime Lopez s free-kick.

Lotte´s Pokal heroics earn home tie with Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund will hope to avoid becoming the third Bundesliga club to be dumped out of the DFB-Pokal by Sportfreunde Lotte.

Lotte, of the third tier, had already ousted top-flight opposition in Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen in the first and second round respectively before securing their last-eight berth with a 2-0 home win over 2.Bundesliga outfit 1860 Munich on Wednesday.

Dortmund losing finalists in each of the past three seasons needed penalties to get past Hertha Berlin after a 1-1 draw at Signal Iduna Park.

Meanwhile, the next test in holders Bayern Munich s defence of their crown will be a home clash with Schalke.

Carlo Ancelotti s side advanced to the last eight on Tuesday with a 1-0 victory over 2015 winners Wolfsburg.
