Brazil v Peru: Casemiro wants another thrashing – but doesn´t expect one

Casemiro would love Brazil to thrash Peru again in Sunday s Copa America final – but admits it is almost certain not to happen.

The Real Madrid midfielder opened the scoring at Arena Corinthians as Tite s side demolished Peru in their final group game of this year s tournament.

The victory was Brazil s 31st in 44 meetings with Peru in all competitions and extended their record against them on home soil to 13 wins in 17. Indeed, Ricardo Gareca s side have not even managed a goal in their most recent four away games against the Selecao.

That said, Peru were the last team to defeat Brazil in the Copa America in their own country, way back in the semi-finals of 1975, when they prevailed 3-1.

And Casemiro, a winner of two trophies with the Brazil Under-20s …

Bauza laments Tevez´s China switch, Argentina boss opens door for Icardi

Edgardo Bauza wanted Chinese Super League recruit Carlos Tevez to continue playing for Boca Juniors, while the Argentina head coach could call on Mauro Icardi.

Tevez became the latest big name to join the lucrative CSL last month, moving to Shanghai Shenhua in a deal reportedly making him the highest-paid player in the world.

It remains to be seen whether Tevez s departure from Buenos Aires will affect his international chances but Bauza refused to rule out the 32-year-old from his World Cup qualifying plans.

I would have liked him to continue in Argentina, Bauza told Radio Continental of the 76-time international forward.

[But] I m going to follow Tevez because I ve always kept him in mind. He raised the level, he s capable of anything.

We can´t make the same mistake two years in a row – Suarez laments Barca collapse

An apologetic and hurt Luis Suarez said Barcelona have a lot to evaluate and think about after their sensational collapse at the hands of Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals.

A 3-0 first-leg deficit was incredibly erased by Jurgen Klopp s Liverpool, who stunned LaLiga champions Barca 4-0 at Anfield on Tuesday.

Braces from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum sent last season s runners-up Liverpool through to the Madrid decider on June 1 as Barca were left licking their wounds.

In 2017-18, Barca saw a 4-1 opening-leg advantage wiped out by Roma, who won the return fixture 3-0 in the Italian capital to progress to the semis.

Final whistle at Anfield. Liverpool qualify for the final.

Eintracht ´still optimistic´ about keeping Rebic

Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Hubner said the Bundesliga side are still optimistic about keeping star Ante Rebic.

Rebic has been heavily linked to Serie A side Inter, while neighbours AC Milan have also emerged as a possible destination for the Croatia international forward.

Eintracht – who reached the Europa League semi-finals last season – have already lost star duo Luka Jovic (Real Madrid) and Sebastien Haller (West Ham) during the transfer window.

However, after Rebic s hat-trick in Eintracht s 5-3 win over Waldhof Mannheim in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, Hubner said: We are still optimistic.

Former Liverpool defender Kabak joins Norwich on loan from Schalke

Schalke centre-back Ozan Kabak has joined Norwich City on a season-long loan.

Daniel Farke s men confirmed the deal on Monday, with the newly promoted side retaining the option to buy for a reported £12million (€14m) at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

The 21-year-old becomes another name on Norwich s growing list of acquisitions as they seek to retain their Premier League status.

Kabak spent the second half of the last campaign at Liverpool amid their shortage of centre-backs, appearing 13 times in all competitions.

The Turkey defender, who made the final squad for Euro 2020 in June, ranked third among Jurgen Klopp s defenders to play more than 10 games for passing accuracy, completing 87.5 per cent.

The Schalke loanee also sat third among cl…

The economic power is too strong – Wenger tips Haaland for Premier League move

Erling Haaland will move to England because the economic power of the Premier League is too strong , Arsene Wenger has said.

There is no shortage of suitors for Borussia Dortmund s superstar striker with Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain having all been linked to his signature.

Haaland penned a four-and-a-half-year deal with Dortmund when he joined in January 2020, but he looks set to be on the move next year as a reported €75m (£66m) release clause comes into effect.

The lure of Haaland is simple to see. Since making his debut for Dortmund only Robert Lewandowski (61) and Cristiano Ronaldo (50) have registered more than his 43 goals across Europe s top five leagues.

Bitesize Prediction: Athletico Paranaense vs Cuiaba – 16/08/23

Market: Over 1.5 goals

Odds: 1/2 @

In what could prove to be an enjoyable affair from the Arena da Baixada, Athletico Paranaense will welcome Cuiaba to town in the early hours of Wednesday.

Starting with the hosts, crashing out of the Copa Libertadores last week following penalties heartbreak at the hands of Bolivar, Athletico Paranaense are seeking some recent stability. Forced to settle for a 1-1 stalemate away at Santos earlier in the month while on Serie A duties, the Hurricanes have failed to win any of their previous four appearances across all formats and interim boss Wesley Carvalho will have a growing headache over his side’s defensive struggles over the past few weeks. With their recent rut underlined by an action-packed 3-3 draw against Cruzeiro whe…

Casemiro gives his best to Ronaldo, unless they become opponents

Casemiro is wishing the best to Cristiano Ronaldo following his exit from Manchester United, except in games in which they may face off in the near future.

United confirmed on Tuesday that a mutual agreement had been reached for the termination of Ronaldo s contract, which was set to run until the end of the season.

A seismic interview with Piers Morgan, in which Ronaldo widely criticised the club and manager Erik ten Hag, ultimately spelt the end for the Portuguese star s second spell at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo s next destination is yet to be decided and Casemiro wished him success, apart from in potential games against United.

I didn t text him after that [interview], the Brazil midfielder told a press conference on Saturday. Cristiano is a very experien…

Subotic savoured at Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund director Michael Zorc said the Bundesliga champions are keen to hold on to centre-back Neven Subotic.

The Serbia international s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2014, but Dortmund have offered the centre-back a two-year extension until 2016 as they aim to keep Subotic at the Signal Iduna Park.

We have held talks with Neven, and it is our intention to extend his stay at Dortmund, Zorc told Bild.

Subotic, 24, joined Borussia Dortmund from Mainz in the summer of 2008, and has since developed into an undisputed key player at the German champions.

The defender has made over 100 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund, winning two Bundesliga titles and a DFB Pokal during his four years at the club.

Zenden: Off-the-field uncertainty at Man Utd unhelpful for Ten Hag

Boudewijn Zenden believes ongoings off the pitch at Old Trafford have not made Erik ten Hag s time at Manchester United any easier.

Ten Hag s first season at Old Trafford was promising, finishing in the top four and ending the club s trophy drought as the Red Devils lifted the EFL Cup.

However, Ten Hag s second season in Manchester has not reached the same standards, and though the club will face rivals Manchester City at Wembley in the FA Cup final later this month, United currently sit eighth in the Premier League, 14 points off the Champions League places.

Ten Hag s tenure at Old Trafford has included a number of off-the-field incidents, with a fallout between himself and Jadon Sancho leading to the winger going out on loan to Borussia Dortmund, while Jim Ratc…
